Biography
Tom Hill is a seasoned professional with a passion for organizational communications. Over the past two decades, he has worked in employee communications, organization development and change management. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, he is a respected leader with the proven ability to build and lead successful communication efforts in complex organizations. His extensive experience spans several industries and includes work with some of the leading companies in corporate America.
Recently, Tom spearheaded the global communications of a business transformation for Chevron Oronite (a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation). He was responsible for developing and executing a communication strategy to align employees with Oronite’s new business operating model. As Communication Lead of the Change Management team, Tom orchestrated a multifaceted approach that would lead to the project’s successful implementation.
Prior to the Chevron project, Tom was Senior Manager of Internal Communications for Mervyns, LLC — a three billion dollar retail chain headquartered in Hayward, Calif. At Mervyns, he built and directed a team of specialists that provided the communications to achieve the company’s aggressive business goals. In partnership with executive leadership, he drove the cultivation of a business literate workforce galvanized by a new corporate strategy.
Tom has worked as a senior practitioner in the employee communication departments of Bank of America, Kaiser Permanente, National Semiconductor Corporation and Pacific Gas & Electric Company. He began his career as the benefits communication consultant at Sedgwick Noble Lowndes. Some of his clients at Sedgwick included Charles Schwab & Company, Fairmont Hotels, Gap Inc. and Ross Stores.
Tom earned his Bachelors degree in Business Management and has a Masters in Organization Development from the University of San Francisco. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Organizational Psychology from the Professional School of Psychology in Sacramento, Calif. In addition, he has completed coursework by the Health Insurance Association of America and the Insurance Institute of America, as well as having studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Academy of Art College, San Francisco.
He is a member and past president of the San Francisco Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Tom has held memberships with the Council of Communication Management, the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Organizational Behavior Management Network. For several years now, he has served on the Communication Advisory Committee for the California Division of the American Cancer Society. He is listed in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals, and the second edition of Outstanding People of the 20th Century.
